The Reason He Appeared
This Christmas message invites us to see beyond the familiar nativity scene and grasp the cosmic purpose behind that vulnerable baby in Bethlehem. Drawing from 1 John 3:8, we discover that Jesus didn't simply come to set a good example or teach us morality—He came on a mission to destroy the works of the devil. From the moment sin entered the world through Adam and Eve's choice in the garden, humanity has been trapped in deception, guilt, sickness, and spiritual darkness. The enemy has worked tirelessly to keep us blind to God's true nature, accusing us day and night, binding us in chains of shame and fear. But the Christmas story is God's invasion of enemy-occupied territory. Through the birth of Christ, God began reversing the curse pronounced in Genesis 3:15—that ancient prophecy where God promised a seed from the woman who would crush the serpent's head. Jesus came fully human and fully divine to rescue sinners, reveal the Father's heart, and render Satan powerless through His death and resurrection. The gift has been purchased and placed under the tree for everyone, but it only becomes ours when we open it. This Christmas season, we're challenged to live in the freedom Christ secured, to resist the devil's lies about who we are, and to share this light with others who are still walking in darkness.
