War: Praying our way to Victory

Mar 1, 2026    Jeff O'Harra

This powerful message takes us deep into Exodus 17 and the battle against Amalek, revealing a profound framework for spiritual warfare that transforms how we understand prayer and victory in our Christian walk. The battle against Amalek wasn't just a historical event—it's a living picture of our daily struggle against the flesh, the world, and the enemy. What makes this passage so compelling is the three-fold structure of victory: Joshua fighting in the valley with the sword, Moses interceding on the hilltop with raised hands, and Aaron and Hur supporting Moses when his arms grew weary. When all three worked together, Israel prevailed; when any element faltered, the enemy gained ground. This mirrors our spiritual reality perfectly—we must actively fight using God's Word like Joshua, depend on Christ's intercession like Moses praying for the people, and rely on the Holy Spirit's empowering presence like Aaron and Hur providing support. The message connects this beautifully to three prayer models: the Lord's Prayer teaching us to actively petition against temptation, Jesus' High Priestly Prayer in John 17 showing us our intercessor who never stops praying for us, and Romans 8:26 revealing how the Spirit helps us pray when we don't even know what to say. The stunning truth is that all three persons of the Trinity are engaged in our victory over sin—and when we align ourselves with this divine pattern through prayer, Scripture, and dependence on the Spirit, we overcome. This isn't about trying harder in our own strength; it's about recognizing that the battle is already structured for our victory when we engage all three dimensions of this spiritual warfare.
