The Promised Land: The Victorious Christian Life

May 3, 2026    Jeff O'Harra

This powerful message invites us to examine our spiritual journey through the lens of Romans 8, one of Scripture's most transformative chapters. We're reminded that just as the Israelites stood at the Jordan River, looking back at Egypt and slavery while facing the uncertainty of enemy territory ahead, we too stand at crossroads in our faith. The central truth here is revolutionary: there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. This isn't partial forgiveness or improved standing—it's complete transformation. Like those ancient Israelites who had to trust God enough to step into flooding waters, we're called to move beyond our comfort zones and past hurts. The sermon draws a compelling parallel between foster children learning to trust loving families and our own journey of trusting our Heavenly Father. Many of us carry wounds, disappointments, and reasons not to trust, yet God invites us to cross over from a Romans 7 existence of struggle into a Romans 8 life of victory. The message challenges our tendency toward self-focus, reminding us that true Christian living means putting others first and recognizing that we're not saved just for ourselves but to be lights for those around us. When we grasp that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells within us, everything changes—we're not just forgiven, we're empowered to live differently.
